CHAPTER ELEVEN

We walked the route back to the room we had been using earlier in silence. Inside, the girl was still sat at her computer, but she was gathering up her belongings “Sorry,” I told her as I approached. “I nearly stole your pen.”

I handed it back as she stood, turning to look at me, but her gaze fell on Jae. “Holy hot-sauce, you’re even hotter up close.”

Jae folded his arms giving me a smug smile before looking back at the girl. “Thank you.”

She swooned. An actual swoon like from the movies. “And your girlfriend is beautiful too,” she said, looking at me. “You make a lovely couple… and now I’m sounding like my grandmother, so I’m going to go.”

“Don’t leave on our account,” I told her as she gathered her belongings and darted to the door. And then she was gone.

“You heard that, right? She called me hot.”

“Don’t act like that’s not something you already know. Even I won’t say otherwise.” I rolled my eyes. “But hearing you call yourself hot seems so…” I was going for human, like it wasn’t a descriptor I expected to hear from a god, but all of a sudden, the atmosphere seemed to change, and Jae was standing in front of me, leaving barely any gap.

“She was wrong about you though,” he said, quietly. “Beautiful is an understatement.”

“Wow,” I said, dryly, even though I couldn’t stop my heart from pounding despite the corniness.

Jae raised a hand, brushing the hair back from my face, his fingers somehow caressing my skin as he did so. And so help me, it sent a shiver down my spine. He leaned forward, his gaze fixed on my eyes, unblinking. I closed my eyes as his lips met mine.

The tingling sensation was back. It was like my body was telling me this was meant to be.

I kissed him back, allowing my body to mold against his. His arms held me close as he led the kiss, slow and strong.

And then, as I was being drawn into that kiss and everything else was melting away, I became aware of something. It was small at first, so much so, I didn’t really pay attention to the hairs on the back of my neck stand on end, assuming it was the skill of Jae’s tongue.

And then the tingling sensation changed.

It was no longer telling me this was a man – a god – I was destined to spend my life with, but rather, this needed to stop.

I pulled back, trying to get my heartbeat to steady. “This is a library-” I couldn’t finish the ridiculous excuse for a feeling I couldn’t put my finger on, because I was suddenly being shoved to the side.

The next thing I knew, the computer which had been directly behind me had been smashed into pieces, shards of plastic flying past my head as an ilhoeyong destroyed it.

“Kiaria! Your sword!” Jae yelled at me.

I ran to the side, putting a table between me and two ilhoeyong as Jae conjured a fireball and threw it at one of the two circling him.
